Simplify the move to all-IP
Together, we make digital transformation a success.
What’s happening and when?
For decades, the UK’s phones have relied on the copper-based public switched telephone network (PSTN). This is no longer able to keep up with modern demands and will be switched off by January 2027 – meaning phone lines will need to be replaced with digital alternatives.

Deliver the digital future
To help you successfully migrate your customers from analogue phone lines to all-IP, we offer a multi-layered approach.
Everything in one place
The PSTN switch-off affects organisations of all sizes. With our portfolio, you have everything you need to deliver digital, wherever it’s needed. We even have options for your customers who need to keep their analogue equipment for a bit longer.
Key solutions for digital transformation
Wholesale Hosted Communications: Deliver all-IP via WHC Hosted Centrex or Hosted SIP Trunking. Extend capability with a range of powerful add-ons.
Broadband One: Simple, reliable broadband designed for small and medium-sized businesses.
Complete Switch: Streamline migrations for small businesses with this combination of Broadband One and WHC Express.
IP Transformation Services: Make migrations easier with support from our experts, including solution design, set-up and managed decommissioning.
Pre-digital Phone Line: Enable customers to keep analogue equipment while still moving them away from the PSTN.
Protecting vulnerable users
Many vulnerable people rely on analogue devices for their health and wellbeing. We’re committed to supporting them, so we’ve signed up to the government’s voluntary Public Switched Telephone Network charter. That means we’re taking action to make sure telecare devices, alarms, phones and other equipment for vulnerable users stay connected – even after the switch-off.
Frequently asked questions
There’s a lot happening over the next few years, so you probably have some questions.
-
What’s being withdrawn and why?
The existing PSTN service is ageing, and it’s no longer sustainable to support today’s communication requirements. It’ll reach the end of its life by 2027, which means the analogue telephone voice service that’s reliant on the network won’t be available anymore.
-
What does stop sell mean?
‘Stop sell’ means no new WLR services will be offered in the impacted areas. Stop sell also restricts existing WLR services.
-
What can I replace PSTN with?
As PSTN closes, there are a number of other products which can underpin migration, covering both broadband and Ethernet. For voice services, you’ll need an IP voice product over the top of the underlying access. We’ve put together some FAQs within our interactive guide which should answer any questions you may have. If you want to know more, just get in touch with us.
